We Floridians Could Have Been British If It Weren’t for the Spanish!

As part of the 2026 Semi-Quincentennial Celebration Lecture Series presented by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Florida (Ximenez Fatio House), the St. Augustine chapters of the DAR and SAR, and the St. Augustine America 250 committee, Tom Hand, founder of Americana Corner, and Jeff Jore, history professor at Flagler College, will present “We Floridians Could Have Been British If It Weren’t for the Spanish!”

Following the program, Tom Hand will host a book signing, offering attendees the opportunity to meet the author and have their copies personally signed.

This five-lecture series, entitled “ Unknown Faces, Facts and Features of Florida in the Revolution,” focuses on the ethnic groups living in Florida during the American Revoluion.  Even though technically Florida was not a part of the war, its people were significantly impacted by, or they themselves impacted, the war, its outcome, and the birth of our nation.  Learn some fascinating history that you probably did not learn in school!

Sponsored by the Florida Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture Preservation 250th grant and a marketing grant from St. Johns Cultural Council.

Admission is free but advance registration is required.
